Mr. Irakli Karseladze, Georgian Minister of Regional Development and Infrastructure accompanied by Messrs. David Songulashvili, MP and Murat Avci, Director General of Maqro Construction LLC visited the construction site of the road by-passing the town of Sagarejo, a part of the Kakheti highway. The construction works are reported to be going on rapidly.
“A 35 km section of the Kakheti highway linking the capital Tbilisi to Sagarejo is the most important. Upon its completion, the time it takes to reach the destination will cut significantly making the trip much more comfortable. The project envisages construction of the 4- lane highway allowing driving at 110 km/h, with the international road safety standards taken into account. The Kakheti highway and development of the internal and international roads form a part of the 10-year “Vision-2030” – Georgia Development Strategy initiated by Mr. Irakli Garibashvili, Georgian PM. Approx. 2 bn Gel is going to be invested in the construction of Kakheti highway and the internal and international roads across Georgia”, - Minister Karseladze pointed out.
“The Tbilisi-Sagarejo section is a part of the highway linking the capital Tbilisi with the eastern Georgian Kakheti region, as well as a part of the transit corridor between Georgia and the north-west Azerbaijan. The road in place crosses the densely populated towns and villages, such as Vaziani, Sartichala, Ninotsminda and Sagarejo. The new road will ease up the traffic and consequently make driving safer and shorter. That’s why we view involvement in the project so important. The international standard road is going to add up attraction to the Georgian Kakheti region, already a significant tourist attraction”, - Mr. Murat Avci stated.
The budget of the Sagarejo by-pass road project to be implemented in 24 months amounts to 149.9 M Gel.
